I. Why does a strong democracy rely on well informed citizens? A. Citizens need reliable info to… 1. Choose good leaders 2. Form opinions on issues. 3. Take action in areas of interest. B. Facts vs. Opinions 1. Fact- something that can be verified or proven to be true. 2. Opinion- belief, statement, or conclusion that is not necessarily supported by proof. 3. Manipulate- Change something around or present in a way that serves your purpose. 4. Propaganda- One-sided info used to help your cause or hurt an opposing cause. 5. Objective- Unbiased or impartial. Can be proven right or wrong. 6. Subjective- Biased, not impartial. Open to interpretation. May not be clearly right or wrong.
