Nationalism Pride in one’s country
created major rivalries among the European Nations.

Imperialism a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force. caused many countries in Europe to come into conflict. Competition for Colonies created major problems.

Militarism grew out of the desire to have an empire. If a country had an empire they needed an army to defend it. They would also need a navy. As a result, European countries spent fortunes on building up their military.

Alliance Systems Group of nations that worked together to achieve a common goal Europe was divided into two major alliance systems. These Alliances ultimately brought Europe into WWI.

Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austria- Hungary throne, was assassinated along with his wife. *Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia

C. The assassin was a Serbian Nationalist by
the name of Gavrilo Princip. He Belonged to “The Black Hand”.

D. Following the assassination, the Alliances caused Europe to go to war…
