1 Body Organization Our bodies have millions of cells. We also have many different kinds of cells These cells work together in our bodies and perform specific jobs

2 Body Organization For example:
Muscle cells contract to allow movement, and nerve cells receive and transmit messages throughout our body

3 A group of similar cells working together forms a tissue
Body Organization A group of similar cells working together forms a tissue Connective tissue – joins, supports, protects, insulates, cushions organs (keeps organs from falling apart) Epithelial tissue – covers and protects underlying tissue (surface of your skin, one continuous sheet) Muscle tissue – cells that contract and relax to produce movement Nervous tissue – sends signals through the body (found in the brain, nerves and sense organs)

4 Body Organization Connective tissue – joins, supports, protects, insulates, cushions organs (keeps organs from falling apart)

5 Body Organization 2. Epithelial tissue – covers and protects underlying tissue (surface of your skin, one continuous sheet)

6 3. Muscle tissue – cells that contract and relax to produce movement
Body Organization 3. Muscle tissue – cells that contract and relax to produce movement Skeletal – attached to bones, allow movement Smooth -  blood vessels and hollow internal organs, such as the stomach, intestine, and bladder. Cardiac - that has evolved to pump blood throughout the body.

7 Body Organization 4. Nerve tissue – sends signals through the body (found in the brain, nerves and sense organs)

8 Two or more tissues working together from an organ
Body Organization Two or more tissues working together from an organ For example: your stomach used all four kinds of tissues to carry out digestion

9 Your body has 78 organs!! Of those organs, 5 are considered vitals organs: the heart, brain, lungs, kidneys and liver.

10 Organs that work together make up an organ system
Body Organization Organs that work together make up an organ system Your stomach does a lot to help you digest food, but it doesn’t do it all. Your stomach works with other organs, such as the small and large intestines to digest your food

11 Your body has 11 organ systems!!
integumentary, muscular, skeletal, nervous,  circulatory/cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, endocrine, urinary/excretory, reproductive and digestive.

12 Organ systems work together to maintain homeostasis
Body Organization Organ systems work together to maintain homeostasis

13 1. On the FRONT with the title, draw and color an example
2. On the INSIDE of the flap, give the definition 3. On the INSIDE of the foldable, give 2 examples of each
