Ionic vs. Covalent Lab
2
Common Core Connection
Objectives Today I will be able to: Identify the properties of ionic and covalent compounds Use experimental evidence to determine if unknown compounds are ionic or covalent Informal assessment – monitoring student interactions and questions as they write the summary, design the lab table and collect and analyze the data Formal assessment – analyzing student responses to the summary, lab conclusion and exit ticket Common Core Connection Value evidence Attend to precision Reason abstractly and quantitatively

Ionic vs. Covalent Properties Summary
You have 15 minutes to complete the lab summary. Be sure to cite the pages in the textbook that you referenced
9
Lab Safety/ Directions
Closed Toe Shoes, Aprons and Goggles must be worn All compounds can be disposed of down the drain Only use a small sample (1 scoop) of each solid Dry spatula between each use Clean conductivity meter with a paper towel in between each use
10
Ionic vs. Covalent Compounds Lab
Find the partner that Ms. Ose assigns and collect the data. When you finish clean up your lab area and begin working on your conclusion statement
11
Exit Ticket On an half-sheet of paper (anonymously) write if compounds A – F are ionic or covalent based on the data you collected in lab today.
