4 A Brief TIA Recap Since GSC-10
TIA 2006 Industry Playbook is available for information as Contribution No. Opening 13a3 A Summary of TIA’s 2006 Telecommunications Market Review and Forecast is available as Contribution No. Opening 13a4 GSC: Standardization Advancing Global Communications

5 A Brief TIA Recap Since GSC-10
Some Highlights: 2005 marks over 60 years of active standards development at TIA and predecessor organizations, with TR-8 still actively producing standards; it had its first meeting in November 1944 TR-47 was launched in 2005 GSC: Standardization Advancing Global Communications

6 A Brief TIA Recap Since GSC-10
Some Highlights: TR-47 Engineering Committee Terrestrial Mobile Mulitmedia Multicast (TM3) Responsible for the development and maintenance of terrestrial mobile multimedia multicast standards. These standards are intended to be employed by users and suppliers to promote compatible and interoperable systems to support multicast audio, video, and data requirements for a wide range of commercial and public services. The Engineering Committee's focus is on standards for radio interfaces, testing methodologies, performance and reliability standards, and equipment design guides as they relate to terrestrial mobile multimedia multicast GSC: Standardization Advancing Global Communications

7 A Brief TIA Recap Since GSC-10
Some Highlights: TIA and its engineering committees, subcommittees and working groups continued to meet industry demand for standards documents and accomplished much in 2005. 95 new projects were opened, 176 standards proposals/ballots were issued 257 documents were published, reaffirmed, revised, upgraded or withdrawn As secretariat, the association maintains more than 1,000 documents — from both TIA and the Third Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2). 8 The View through the Windshield
Beyond 3G (B3G) is on the road ahead Evolution of cdma2000® technology, closer collaboration with 3GPP As reported at GSC-10, TIA’s Board authorized a new TIA Communications Research Division to increase government R&D funding for our sector, and new technologies and products flowing from that R&D investment will likely need standardization globally CRD will have updates for industry during GLOBALCOMM 2006 GSC: Standardization Advancing Global Communications

9 The View through the Windshield
The continuing needs of NGN evolution Reviewing NSTAC NGN Report LAES for new technology and services The TIA Technical Committee Next-Generation Networks (“NGN”) Focus Group is mapping TIA standards work to NGN work being done in other standards fora. TIA does standards for GigE, IPoS, IMS, VoIP, XoIP, Broadband for Public Safety, TM3, etc. TIA is identifying TIA work under the umbrella of “NGN” TIA was invited to participate in the ITU-T NGN Joint Coordination Activity group (NGN-JCA) and participated in its first meeting on January 20, 2006. 10 The View through the Windshield
IPR and Standards The needs of Homeland Security and First Responders and Emergency Responders MESA, PPDR, “Triple Play” for public safety NSTAC Emergency Communications and Interoperability Task Force (“ECITF”) TIA added to Executive Board of National Institute of Urban Search and Rescue (“NIUSR”) In March, TIA was named by DHS to a seat on the Critical Infrastructure Partnership Advisory Council. GSC: Standardization Advancing Global Communications

11 The View through the Windshield
ITS America was Secretariat to ISO TC-204 and US Technical Advisory Group (“TAG”) Administrator. TIA will be assuming both these roles mid-year 2006. TIA has been Working Group 16 Administrator (“WAG-16”) – Wide Area Communications/protocols and interfaces -- for over a decade. Opportunity to attract automotive sector participation to TIA through emerging value-added networking synergies. “ICT in the Vehicle” Workshop being planned by ITU/ISO/IEC – the WSC -- for early next year in Geneva in conjunction with Geneva Auto Show.
