Nation Building in the 19th Century Europe
Introduction Task Process Evaluation Introduction The French Revolution and Napoleon spread Enlightenment ideas of liberty, equality, and the rule of law (based upon the Code) throughout much of Europe and Latin America. Ironically, Napoleon's goal to absorb other nations into a greater French empire had the unforseen effect of rekindling those nations' own spirit of nationalism. Despite the victory of monarchies in 1815, the embers of nationalism stoked by Napoleon would never be put out completely. In this project you will discover how nationalism led to the creation of new nation-states in 19th century Europe and follow up by creating a newspaper for your country reflecting the romantic spirit of the age.
