2 Warm Up Bias: Bias is a belief or an opinion that a person has.
Think about something you are biased about. Write a paragraph explaining what your bias is and why you are biased. Reference times in the past that may have caused the bias.

3 What is the Author’s Bias?
Bias is a belief or an opinion that the author has. Many people are biased about certain things. Bias is often very unfair or unbalanced. Ex.) Football fans make think that a referee made a bad call just because they really like the team the call was against.

4 How do I find author’s bias?
Look for these signs: Emotional Appeal: The author uses words that produce strong feelings such as pity or fear. Appeals to Authority: Refers to people who are experts on a subject. Loaded Language: Uses words with strongly positive or strongly negative meanings.

As we read the informational article look for signs of the author’s bias or beliefs. We will fill out the chart together as we read.
