Facebook is an interactive way to promote an event
The Facebook page for the venue posts information about the venue and upcoming events.

The Facebook venue page has a link to the event
It invites people to join the Facebook page to receive announcements about events and to post comments and photos.

LinkedIn is good for business events
On the event web page, you can click the LinkedIn symbol and choose to publish the event on your own LinkedIn page. Twitter symbol FaceBook symbol LinkedIn symbol

Google+ now has Google+ Events
If you have a Google+ profile, you can create an event, send invitations, and have a page where everyone can post event photos and comments. You create an event by filling in key information and choosing a theme.
