7 Step 1 READ AND REALLY DIGEST THE PROMPT IDENTIFY:
HISTROICAL THINKING SKILL THE TIME PERIOD Begin thinking about the potential arguments

8 EXAMPLE Develop an argument that evaluates causes of imperial decline and collapse in the period circa 600 BCE to 600 CE

9 EXAMPLE Develop an argument that evaluates how the Columbian Exchange transformed the economy of the Americas during this time period.

11 Step 2 Brainstorm your thesis Make sure:
It is debatable and argumentative It clearly addresses the skill that the prompt focuses on Brainstorm contextualization, arguments, evidence that can be used to support these arguments WRITE DOWN IDEAS Come up with SPECIFIC Historical evidence DON’T JUST SAY “POLITICAL” “ECONOMIC” “RELIGIOUS”, ect Come up with HOW this evidence supports/proves your argument

12 Step 3 Briefly outline your essay Here is your general format:
Paragraph 1: Contextualization & Thesis Paragraph 2: Argument #1(Cause 1) Specific historical evidence AND explanation of this evidence Paragraph 3: Argument #2 (Cause 2) Paragraph 4: Argument # 3 (Effect 1) Paragraph 5: Conclusion Restate your thesis Attempt a synthesis statement if you have time

13 Step 4 Each paragraph should take this general format:
Topic Sentence(Argument from your thesis) Introduce SPECIFIC PIECE OF HISTORICAL EVIDENCE that supports your argument in at lease one sentence (Think describes from the DBQ) Explain HOW/WHY this piece of evidence proves the argument in one-two sentences (Think supports from the DBQ) TRY TO GET AT LEAST TWO SPECIFIC PIECES OF EVIDENCE AND EXPLANATIONS PER PARAGRAPH

You know how to do the first paragraph because it is the same as the DBQ Let’s talk about how format a paragraph in the LEQ
