Team P16228: Magnetically Levitated Propeller
Post MSD I Review Team P16228: Magnetically Levitated Propeller
2
Team Members Original members New Member Joe Bernadini Cheng Lin
Mike Purcell Zachary Louison Elijah Sensenig Bernie Garcia New Member Cheng Lin
3
Changes Since Last Review
Cheng Lin became a team member Solenoid Controller PCB assembled and soldered New solenoid controller PCB design Sensor board PCB design Design for system altered pitch added to propeller blades alteration to enclosure to have space where the solenoids can be inserted final design finished changes may be made if necessary in the future Test plans were completed Sections removed that were unnecessary Testing section added for engineering requirements Problem tracking document was created
4
Updated Design Requirements
Air operated: unit will not be for underwater use not waterproof goal is a proof of concept, so there was not enough time to incorporate waterproofing Active feedback if not incorporated, the system will become unstable
5
Updated Test Plans No flow simulation included, due to our simulations not working previously under propeller testing Testing to ensure engineering requirements are all met testing the thrust test levitation through test run stability (active feedback), propeller remains in place backup failure mode in matlab code Electrical plans and setups incorporated instructions on how to test electrical subsystems
6
Updated Project Plan
7
Updated Problem Tracking
8
Updated Risk Management
9
Week 5 Plans Team Plans Run first full system test
Individual Plans Bernie Build prototype along with other members Take charge of the poster design Record data from test runs Eli Working with team members on prototyping Start the paper outline Decide with group if backup plan should be initiated (pending testing) Joe Updating the BOM Build prototype Get 3D printed items Zach In charge of building the prototype Work on the draft of the paper Update SolidWorks drawings if needed Cheng Become familiar with the project Help design the matlab code Build solenoids Mike Compile content for paper Prepare/verify MATLAB code for backup Support build(s) Week 5 Plans Team Plans Run first full system test Have a working prototype Draft of the paper and poster for Imagine RIT Have first official numbers for the system, such as power, thrust, and etc. from the test results

Purchased Items Arrived BeagleBone Black Magnets
PVC Pipe (container for magnets) Solenoid Controller Board (PCB x 3) Solenoid Controller Board Components Power supply Still in transit Motor (is ready to ship) Upcoming Purchases Sensor Board (PCB x 3) Sensor Board Components Alternate Solenoid Controller Board (PCB x 3)? Alternate Solenoid Controller Board Components?

3D Printing Details 50 grams of plastic, free per student
Weight needed to produce all plastic pieces 96 grams Currently attempting to contact those in charge to see if we can allocate two students’ worth of free plastic Goal: Plastic will have no cost

Mistakes, Problems from MSD I
Not having a final design completed by MSD I Meetings more team meetings were necessary to work as a group Better team communication Collaborate in groups on specific sections and not work separately Have Leo check our work more often to make changes early on if needed
