2. Introduction
The Iditarod Race started because there was a disease in Nome and they had to get the medicine there. So, they used sled dogs It happened in 1925, the disease was called Diphtheria. The race started to remind people about it so they will remember the people that saved the people that were in Nome and had the disease. They use sled dogs just like in 1925 when they brought meds to the sick people.

3. Routes & Checkpoints
The routes are different this year because Alaska didn’t get as much snow as they usually get each year so they changed routes.
They start at Fairbanks and end at Nome
There are 17 checkpoints because the route change usually it has 19 checkpoints.

4. Musher My Musher’s name is Thomas Waerner He was born in Norway.
His Bib number was 8

5. Dogs
They start the race with 16 dogs the musher is aloud to bring a little equipment the dogs are to represent the sled dogs that got the medicine to Nome in 1925.

6. Awards
The first person winner will earn The Red Lantern as a gift for being the first to cross the finish line out of 78 other musher's. They also get PenAir Spirit of Alaska Award. The last award they could get is the Wells Fargo Bank Alaska Gold Coast Award
