Manage Submissions Submitters Transfer Submissions Assign Reviewers Monitor Reviewer Status

3 Terms Used in Training Session – Refers to a scheduled paper session, panel discussion or business meeting. Standard sessions are 1 hour and 15 minutes. One session is equal to one of your allotted slots. Individual Paper – A paper is submitted directly by an author(s) for consideration as an individual paper and not as part of a pre-conceived paper session. Papers are reviewed individually. Sometimes referred to as competitive papers. Unit planners then group papers into paper sessions. Individual Performance – (New submission type in 2017) A performance submitted directly by the performer for consideration as an individual performance and not part of a pre-conceived performance session. Performances are reviewed individually. Unit planners then group performances into performance sessions. Individual Film – (New submission type in 2017) A film submitted directly by the film maker for consideration as an individual film and not part of a pre-conceived film session. Films are reviewed individually. Unit planners then group films into film session.

4 Terms Used in Training Film Session – (1) A film session is submitted as a pre-conceived and complete session of film(s). The film(s) are not submitted or reviewed individually and are not submitted by the film maker(s) but rather by the person submitting the film session. The entire film session is reviewed for consideration as a whole. (2) A film session can also be created by the unit planner as a collection of individually submitted papers. Paper Session – (1) A paper session is submitted as a pre-conceived and complete session of papers. The papers are not submitted or reviewed individually and are not submitted by the author(s) but rather by the person submitting the paper session. The entire paper session is reviewed for consideration as a whole. (2) A paper session can also be created by the unit planner as a collection of individually submitted papers. Panel Discussion – A panel discussion is submitted as a pre-conceived and complete session of presenters discussing a topic/issue. There are no papers presented at a panel discussion. Performance Session – (1)A performance session is submitted as a pre-conceived and complete session with a performer(s), chair(s) and respondent (optional). The performance session is reviewed for consideration as a whole. (2) A performance session can also be created by the unit planner as a collection of individually submitted performances.

5 Manage Submissions The Manage Submissions page organizes your submissions by submission type and you can sort by either submission number or title.

6 Manage Submissions It is highly recommended that you review your submissions as they come in by clicking on the submission title. You can request that the submitter withdraw a submission if errors are found.

7 Email Submitters - Individually

8 Manage Submissions If there is an issue
with a submission, the submitter should withdraw his/her submission and re-submit via the My Submissions Tab. Submissions can only be re-submitted during the normal submission period. *You should also update your call if you think that would prevent the same mistake.*

9 Transfer Submissions Scholar to Scholar All Other Transfers
Submitter agreed for submission to be considered for S2S. Paper lends itself to presentation with visual component. Paper must be well reviewed and meet criteria for acceptance to your unit. - S2S is NOT a “dumping ground” for papers. 1. DO not transfer a submission without contact the SUBMITTER first. 2. DO NOT transfer a submission without contacting the PLANNER first. 3. Transfer must be made BEFORE reviews.

10 Transfer Submissions

11 Transfer You must Approve/Reject all proposed transfers to your unit. This does not Accept/Decline the submission, it only Approves/Rejects the transfer. Accepting a transfer means that you now “own” it. Rejecting the transfer sends the transfer back to the originating unit. NOTE: Completed reviews do not transfer with a submission. If you accept a reviewed transfer, the reviews will be lost.

12 A Code of Professional Ethics for Communication Scholar/Teacher
For Planners Planners have an obligation to select reviewers based on scholarly acumen…and openness to various methodologies, topics and theoretical perspectives For Reviewers Reviewers should acknowledge any factors that might unfairly influence their assessment of a manuscript and promptly return that manuscript so that it might be sent to a different referee. Reviewers should render judicious, professional assessments and evaluations, devoid of personal attacks. Reviewers should thoroughly elucidate the reasons for their recommendations and provide constructive criticism and advice for the benefit of the author.

13 Assign Reviewers This column shows you how many reviews have been assigned to this reviewer within your unit/affiliate. Reviewers are not notified when they have been assigned a review so you will need to alert them to this task.

14 Assign Reviewers Assign yourself as a reviewer so you can see where/how reviewers access their assigned reviews. Just be sure to unassign yourself! Reviewers will not be able to begin completing reviews until March 20.

15 Reviewer Status Note: ALL submissions need to receive written feedback.

16 Reviewer Status You can bulk either group of reviewers – Complete or Incomplete. Reviewer names are a live link Tip: s sent via NCA Convention Central may be sent to spam/junk folders. If you are not receiving a response from reviewers try contacting them outside the system
