God is Asking Genesis 3:8-13
2
4/14/2019 am Where are you? After they had sinned, “the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord” (Genesis 3:8) God then asked, “Where are you?” Why would we try to hide? Job 34:21-23; Proverbs 5:21; Psalms 139:8; John 3:19 Job 34: “For His eyes are upon the ways of a man, and He sees all his steps. 22 "There is no darkness or deep shadow where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves. 23 "For He does not need to consider a man further, That he should go before God in judgment. 24 "He breaks in pieces mighty men without inquiry, And sets others in their place. Proverbs 15:3 (“the eyes of the Lord are in every place, watching the evil and the good”) Proverbs 5:21 (“For the ways of a man are before the eyes of the Lord, and He watches all his paths.”) Psalms 139:8; Indeed, “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?” Chris Simmons

Where are you? God is asking, where is the man …
4/14/2019 am Where are you? God is asking, where is the man … “Whose heart is completely His?” 2 Chronicles 16:9 “Who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me?” Ezekiel 22:30 Whom God can send to do His work and “will go for Us”? Isaiah 6:8 Who will be “useful to the Master”? 2 Timothy 2:21 After King Asa relied on the king of Aram and not God after at first turning to Him. Who will be that preserving influence who will let their light shine. Chris Simmons

Where are you? Examples:
Jonah - who “rose up to flee … from the presence of the Lord” (Jonah 1:3). Elijah - “what are you doing here?” (1 Kings 19:9-10) The Ten lepers - “were there not ten cleansed? But the nine - where are they?” (Luke 17:11-19; 2 Chronicles 32:25) Peter - “… he began to withdraw and hold himself aloof …” (Galatians 2:12) Jonah – (1:3) “Jonah rose up to flee… from the presence of the Lord”. Where are you Jonah? Asleep in the hold of a ship running away from God. Later he found himself in Nineveh – where God had sent him. Elijah Where are you? “Lodging” in a cave having run away from Jezebel – like Jonah – wishing he could die. He felt that “I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of Hosts… and I alone am left, and they seek my life to take it away.” The ten lepers – Luke 17:11-19 – “Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine – where are they” Are we simply doing our own thing? Going on with life as though it were no big deal. There was no “return” given. When we fail to worship and praise God – is He asking, “where are you”? In God’s words, “did I not heal you and forgive you?” Chris Simmons

4/14/2019 am Where are you? In terms of where we used to be: Maybe we haven’t “fled” from the presence of the Lord, but are we as close as we used to be? Have we drifted? Hebrews 2:1, “drift” means to “flow past or glide by - doesn’t indicate even intentional disregard, just a damning degree of negligence.” Negligence - careless or lack of regard. Failure to “take it to heart” (Malachi 2:2). Chris Simmons
