Areas of Learning
As part of our topic this term, we will be exploring the environment and area around us. We will consider the importance of inventions and inventors from our region as well as gaining a rich sense of our history.
We will look at and study the important geographical features of our region, such as the River Tyne, and the importance in terms of cultural identity. The Bridges of the Tyne will also become a large aspect of our study and the way and reasons that each were built.
Creativity and a love of learning
We will look to plan our curriculum starting with children’s questions, linking our areas of English, Art, History and Music together within one topic. We will experience themed days and educational trips within this topic, giving children a first hand experience that we lead into their writing.
Global Citizens
We will recognise the importance of other traditions and religions throughout the world during our study of Islam and Judaism during our RE lessons. Through research and lessons we will be aware of fundraising opportunities where we can make a difference to areas of our planet.
Skills for Life
We will continue to build important life skills through our varied Science and Engineering and Sports Weeks. We will recognise the importance of decision making and how it may effect a place or country, relating this to the General election through our study of Democracy. We will continue to build our skills to make us computer literate and safe users of the World Wide Web.
The Whole Child
Harnessing the importance of getting along together and building long lasting friendships with those around us. We will consider this through our class lessons, collective worship and liturgy, anti-bullying and anti-racism themed weeks as well as fundraising for CAFOD.

2. Learning & Thinking Skills Geographical Understanding
The children in the class will be challenged regularly with a series of challenges, brain teasers and puzzles to help develop problem solving and determination.
Social Skills
We will work on building bridges through our ability to forgive and seek forgiveness.
Geographical Understanding
We will look at maps of the area, recognising the changing landscape of the North East due to advances in technology and the closure of both coal mines and shipyards.
D & T Skills
We will plan and create model bridges of the Tyne valley to create a scaled version of important geographical and historical sites and monuments.
Science Skills
We will develop our ability to work within a range of scientific enquiry, linked to the inventors we will study within our topic. We will study the field of science linked to those inventors, such as electricity and hydro power.
Art
We will create scenes from the North East in different media such as watercolour, pastel and pencil. We will look at famous artists and art works centered around the North East.
Physical Education
We will have a number of different areas of PE which we will focus on over the coming months, including Outdoor Athletics, Fitness, Team Games and Team Challenges.
Communication, Language & Literacy
Through our reading and writing, we will explore the world of the North East in relation to explanation texts, reports, arguments and narratives. We will write in both a formal and informal context and show our understanding of more complex forms of punctuation and sentence structure within our work.
Religious Education
During this term, as always, RE will shape many of the things we do each day, with Christ being the centre of our school. We will consider how the Holy Spirit enables people to become witnesses to the work of Jesus. We will learn about the work of the World Wide gamily of God through our study of the Universal Church. We will recognise the healing of reconciliation through our study of the Sacrament of the Sick.

We will oversee all of our computing lessons with a background understanding of E-Safety which will allow us to continue to be mindful of the dangers of the internet focusing this term more on social media. We will continue to develop our programming skills through our use of Scratch and Scratch Jnr.
