Saul of Tarsus, named Paul upon conversion to Christ. From the tribe of Benjamin (Phil. 3:5) He was a Pharisee who studied under Gamaliel (Acts 22:3) He was zealous for the Law, persecuting Christians even to the point of death (Acts 8:1-3; 9:1-2; 22:4) He was converted in Damascus (Acts 9, 22, 26) He devoted the remainder of his life to preaching the Gospel, especially to the Gentiles. He wrote to the saints in Rome this treatise (book) from Corinth (A.D. 57)
