Make sure your Introduction has:
Grabber Define the problem – state the issue that you will argue Thesis statement (from your graphic organizer) 2 reasons to support your thesis Counter Argument (opposing side & your rebuttal) Concluding sentence **Use PowerPoint slides as a guide!

Grabber Fifty-three percent of iPhone users use Siri as a personal assistant. Users create reminders and “Google” information at a moment’s notice and without much effort. Today, robots have begun to play a major role in society. One can find a robot to clean or a robotic device that tracks one’s fitness goals. Some people believe that robots have revolutionized the way we live today, and others argue that robots are taking over our lives and humans are losing their ability to use their own intellect and ingenuity. Robot assistants are not a benefit to today’s society. First, the use of robots are making people physically lazy. Secondly, robots are replacing the need for humans in the workplace. Lastly, one could argue that life with robots would make it easier for completion of everyday tasks. Actually though, over time, robots will make life too easy and too convenient, making our society weaker as a whole. Having robots in charge of society is a big mistake. Kinds of Grabbers: Fact/Stat, Anecdote, Rhetorical Question, Definition

Make sure your body paragraphs have:
Topic sentence + Transition (from the reasons you listed in your introduction) 2 examples of textual evidence and explanations Concluding sentence

2nd reason: Topic Sentence
Secondly, robots are replacing the need for humans in the workplace. For example, “In 2002, the iRobot Roomba, an automatic vacuum cleaner, was released” and “In 2006, the Scooba, an automatic floor washer, was released.” These inventions are detrimental to the housekeeping and maintenance professions. If robots begin to complete domestic jobs, the need for manpower diminishes. Additionally, humans are being replaced in the transportation field, too. For instance, “Self driving cars have driven 300,000 miles without an accident.” Some believe that this is a safer alternative to taxi cab drivers, but many do not realize the impact on the unemployment rate. Many people will lose their jobs and the ability to provide for their families. Assistance from robots may seem beneficial, but it is negatively affecting many human lives.

Counter Argument: Topic Sentence
On the other hand, one could argue that life with robots would make it easier for completion of everyday tasks. For example, a Scott Company by the name of Robot Worx promotes robots by saying “Robots produce more accurate and high quality work.” They also state that “Robots can prevent workers from performing dangerous tasks”. However, technology is not fault proof; we still have a long way to go with technology. Robots might be nice to aide in some instances, but we should not let robots completely take over. Robots may malfunction causing fires or harm to people. Using robots also takes away the ability to be creative when completing tasks. Overall, robots will make us lazy and weaker as a whole.

Concluding Sentence On the other hand, the thought of having robots may excite people, arguing that if this were the case, life would be easier with robots completing tasks for us. For example, a Scott Company by the name of Robot Work promotes robots by saying “Robots produce more accurate and high quality work.” They also state that “Robots can prevent workers from performing dangerous tasks”. However, technology is not fault proof; we still have a long way to go with technology. Robots might be nice to aide in some instances, but we should not let robots completely take over. Make sure your conclusion paragraph has:
Transition & Topic Sentence (remind the reader what point you were trying to prove in your essay) Reasons (Use NEW words to describe the reasons you wrote about in your body paragraphs) So What?? (Convince the reader that your position is correct & use emotionally charged words)
20
CONCLUSION Transition and restate thesis In summation, robots are not beneficial to today’s society. First, they promote inactive and unhealthy lifestyles. Secondly, they will cost the community too much money. Finally, they steal jobs from hardworking citizens. If one believes that robots will make one’s life easier and more convenient, he is sadly mistaken. One may wake up one day and realize that robots greatly outnumber humans and may have to come to terms with the idea that humans have become the inferior species. Restate reasons in a NEW way So what?
