2. Adding Polynomials
When adding polynomials, you are simply combining like terms.
It may be helpful to align like terms for vertical computation.

3a + 2b – 8c + 8

6. Subtracting Polynomials
Subtraction is defined as addition of the opposite.
Therefore, subtraction of polynomials can be performed by adding the opposite of each term.

8. Example 6 Simplify. 5a – 7b + 6c + 10 – (3a + 4b – 8c – 9)
