Purposes for Field Experiences
Authentic teaching experiences cannot be duplicated in university classrooms

Purposes for Field Experiences
Observation and limited participation can assist you in understanding classroom dynamics that can help you make effective preparations for assuming a full teaching load in the professional semester It has been reported by foreign language student candidates from LHU that other universities have just “dumped” students in the classroom for their professional semester with no practical experience and that candidates have “fallen apart” on the first day—totally unprepared.

Fulfillment of Field Experiences
Some of you may have experiences that can count toward prescribed field experience. Be sure to discuss any appropriate field experiences with your methods instructor.

Fulfillment of Field Experiences
Sophomores are required to fulfill 24 hours of secondary field experience (observation only) and 10 hours of elementary field experience Plus 10 hours of diversity field experience. LHU provides some access to these experiences, but you may provide evidence to supplement or replace it. [See definition and policy.]

Juniors are required to fulfill 36 hours (observation and limited participation) and 10 hours of elementary field experience Plus 10 hours of diversity field experience. LHU provides some access to these experiences, but you may provide evidence to supplement or replace it. [See definition and policy.]

Fulfillment of Field Experiences
You must write two diversity essays as part of the reporting requirements of diversity experiences. Rubrics have been created to evaluate these experiences. Be sure to inform yourself of what is required so your essay and experience can be tailored to respond appropriately within the desired elements.

PREPARE yourself ahead of time by understanding these assignments and thinking about potential areas of concentration and effective documentation techniques that will give you the most benefit from these experiences
