2 Core Competency 4 Engage diversity and difference in practice.

3 Practice Behavior 4.1 Recognize the extent to which a culture’s structures and values may oppress, marginalize, alienate, or create or enhance privilege or power. I attend awareness meetings when they are offered.

4 Practice Behavior 4.2 Gain sufficient self-awareness to eliminate the influence of personal biases and values in working with diverse groups. I continue to keep an open mind when meeting people that have different cultural backgrounds than me. I continually strive to learn about different cultures. I have taken an inventory of my own personal biases and have discussed them with my supervisor.

5 Practice Behavior 4.3 Recognize and communicate their understanding of the importance of difference in shaping life experiences. I take the time to learn about an individuals past experiences. By doing this I gain knowledge in their life experiences that have made them the person they are today.

6 Practice Behavior 4.4 View themselves as learners and engage those with whom they wok as informants. I always sit down with the individuals and discuss what they want/need out of further treatment. By these answers I do my best to link them to a facility that will work for them. Before anything is done I sit down with the individual and discuss the pros and cons of the facilities that have been picked for them.
