1 A Parents Guide to Test Preparation

2 Don’t PANIC!!!!

3 TRC Prep Please have your child read over Spring Break!!! Testing begins as soon as we return.

4 The Night Before EOGs Stay in your normal routine.
Get a good nights sleep. Cramming doesn't work. Remember, your brain and body need sleep to function well, so don't stay up late!

5 The Morning of the Test Attendance during testing is vital.
To ensure testing is not interrupted, please do not schedule appointments for students to be checked out early on testing days. Get your child to school on time the day of the test.  Getting them here late will not only throw off their routine, but it could also disrupt testing for other students.  Make the morning of the test a pleasant one. Do not add to your child's stress.  Ensure that your child eats a normal breakfast and avoid heavy foods that may make him/her groggy and avoid high sugar foods that may make him/her hyper.

6 During the TRC Test Read the passage as accurately as possible.
Listen to the oral questions and answer as completely as possible. Take time to write a well thought-out response to questions. Refer to the text, when applicable.

7 During the Test (EOGs) Reassure your child that he or she does not have to answer all the questions correctly to pass.   Tell your child to attempt to answer all of the questions and not to leave any blank. There is no penalty for guessing. Use the strategies taught by their teachers. Explain to your child the importance of using time wisely.

8 Just Breathe! Staying calm will help your child stay calm. If he/she gets nervous about the test or is likely to experience anxiety during the test, help him/her practice some relaxation techniques that he/she can try during the test.

9 Questions? If you have questions regarding testing, please contact your child’s teacher, or Mr. Otolski at:
