2 Ontario Renovates Rent Supplement
Investment in Affordable Housing and Social Infrastructure Fund Home Improvement program for low to moderate income resident Urgent home repairs Up to $16,000 in a forgivable loan over 10 years Modifications for accessibility Up to $5,000 as a grant $5.1 Million allocated to Cornwall S.D.&G. for the period Rent Supplement Investment in Affordable Housing and Social Infrastructure Fund Monthly subsidy paid directly to a landlord on behalf of a tenant $100-$200 per month based on income and rental amount calculation Subsidy is for current address only Strong Communities Rent Supplement Program Administered through CAHC Calculated based on rent-geared-to-income $580K allocated to Cornwall S.D.&G. for the period

3 Community Homelessness Prevention Initiative CHPI
This funding aims to prevent, address, and reduce homelessness by improving access to adequate, suitable and affordable housing that is linked to flexible support services based on people’s needs. This program supports individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Provincial funds allocated to these programs were approximated at $10.4M for the period Locally, we provide funding for; Homelessness Prevention Which provides funding for items such as utility and/or rental arrears, moving expenses Max. $1500 in 24 month period Domiciliary Program Which offers financial assistance for eligible individuals who have a medical need for Domiciliary Care but are not able to cover the costs. There are 3 primary factors in determining and approving eligibility for subsidy for placement in a Domiciliary Hostel: Medical Need Financial Need Appropriateness of placement

4 Additional Provincial Funding
Commencing in 2016 and continuing over the next three years, Ontario will invest $2 billion dollars in affordable and sustainable housing across the province. Social Housing Apartment Retrofit Program (SHARP) Eligibility, buildings over 150 units to improve energy efficiency CAHC (only eligible provider) $364,344  Social Housing Improvement Program (SHIP) Improve the quality of social housing Allocation ($1,548,900) was divided equally by # of eligible units units must remain affordable for 10 years Social Housing Apartment Improvement Program(SHAIP) Year 1 – eligible greenhouse gas reduction retrofits 150 units or more Year 2 to 4 – 100 units or more Official funding announcement from MOH is forthcoming

5 Long Term Affordable Housing Strategy (MOH)
Major themes; the supply of affordable housing needs to be increased (affordable rental and affordable home ownership) the current rent-geared-to-income system needs to be overhauled, housing assistance should be portable, not tied to a specific housing unit access to housing needs to be streamlined access to support services needs to be readily available Service Managers and housing providers need better data to make the best decisions regarding the future of housing within their geographic service areas New Units/Building The Service Manager must maintain service level standards. At present, we are maintaining those Standards. In addition, recent funding allocations have not been sufficient to cover the cost of new construction. If new construction were to occur, 100% Municipal dollars would need to be utilized to: support initial Affordable Housing construction, support ongoing maintenance and support rental subsidy
