1 OMA-TISPAN Workshop an integrated operator vision
Philippe Lucas France Telecom 10-11 July 2006

2 Fixed and mobile world are evolving
More and more devices will be deployed in a mixed environment (fixed and mobile) Wifi-GSM phones are appearing on the market (eg. UMA enabled devices or dual phones are used in a mixed environment) Bluetooth – GSM phones can also be used in a mixed environment Trends on IMS show that handsets will be more and more used in a mixed environment Eg. TISPAN specifications are using the IMS specifications of 3GPP to ensure smooth integration of solutions between fixed and mobile OMA-TISPAN Workshop – p 2

3 Questions! Should the applications be environment/access dependent?
Isn’t there an opportunity to ensure that above the access networks the applications should be as common as possible? OMA-TISPAN Workshop – p 3

4 Impact on standardisation organisations
These trends of Fixed/Mobile integration should be reflected in the way the standardisation organisations are working Need to avoid duplicating work between entities and ensure work of different entities are known to each other Envisaged split of work between the two entities OMA in charge of the multimedia services related aspects TISPAN in charge of the specific fixed broadband aspects and network services OMA-TISPAN Workshop – p 4

5 High level view of OMA and TISPAN organisation
Multimedia Service enablers aspects OMA 3GPP2 3GPP TISPAN Access/Core Architecture aspects And “Network services” OMA-TISPAN Workshop – p 5

6 Potential areas of common interest
“Tools” enablers: Synchronization Device (terminal) management DRM Use of IMS by OMA enablers Service enablers Multimedia Telephony services E.g. simulation services Messaging IPTV BCAST Presence Address Book/contact list To provide common fixed-mobile address book. Terminals To identify OMA specifications and features relevant for fixed terminals. OMA-TISPAN Workshop – p 6

7 Conclusion The services will be less and less specific of the access type with the growing convergence of fixed and mobile devices (eg. Introduction of Wifi access on a mobile phone) Re-inforce relationships between TISPAN and OMA at the service level to ensure services can be deployed on many accesses Understand the specific requirements of the fixed access Ensure services/applications are developed once to cover all accesses requirements (if any) Proposals for next steps If the two organisations agree to work on some specific areas, establish a worskshop with respective experts to start analysing in depth how the organisation of the work can be effective between the two organisations OMA-TISPAN Workshop – p 7
