Example # 1 – Plumbing – Practice Workshhet
A1 Plumbing Service charges $35 per hour plus a $25 travel charge for a service call. Good Guys Plumbing Repair charges $40 per hour for a service call with no travel charge. How long must a service call be for the two companies to charge the same amount? A service call must be 5 hours for the companies to charge the same amount.

Let h represent hours, and write expressions for the number of hours.
35 per hour plus a travel charge of 25 the same as 40 per hour no travel charge When is ? 35h = h 35h + 25 = 40h A service call must be 5 hours for the companies to charge the same amount.

Example # 2 A landscaping company charges $100 plus $15 per hour. Another landscaping company charges $75 plus $17 per hour. How long is a job that costs the same no matter which company is used? A job that costs the same no matter which company is used is 12.5 hours.
