2 Why are we here? Our goal is to establish a community-owned shop in Minety to provide an essential service and focal point for the village It will: Create a focal point for the community, a hub for local activities Provide a convenient location for everyday essentials, supplementing the main supermarket shop Sell fresh produce from local producers Provide access to various services Increase house values The village questionnaire we circulated last year got 392 respondents 97% of respondents confirmed that they wanted a village shop

How to go about opening a community shop Plunkett Foundation have lots of experience, advice, hints and tips Experiences from other local community shops Ashton Keynes and Oaksey Plunkett advisors – shop near Stratford on Avon Plunkett’s Community Shop Facebook page Location options in Minety Various ideas from the original survey Each explored, reviewing initial cost estimates and ‘ease of doing’

6 What we’re aiming for Paid manager, with all other staff as volunteers
Open every day, hours tbc Paid manager, with all other staff as volunteers Essentials / staples plus quality local produce Key services – building these up over time Reasonable pricing – to reflect the convenience but not overpriced To make a small profit that can be invested back into the shop and other village activities; worst case to break even Survey feedback on product range

Easily accessible to everyone in the village Visible to passing trade Utilities in place, ‘ready to go’ Available as soon as we are ready We can purchase it – a strong recommendation from Plunkett Owners are very supportive – they want to see it become the Village Shop The Old Band Hall on Silver Street

There are approximately 1,100 people in the village Each ‘brick’ or ‘share’ will cost £10 If everyone buys 1 brick, we raise £11k If everyone buys 2 bricks, we raise £22k If everyone buys 5 bricks, we beat our target and raise £55k We’re launching this tonight For you to buy or pledge We will issue a certificate to everyone who buys bricks

11 Fundraising ideas We’re working on a timetable of fundraising activities for the year, that could include some or all of the following: - Car wash - Silent auction - Car boot sale - Bingo night - Quiz night - Classic car event If you have any ideas, or are up for getting involved in organising any of these, do let us know If you are involved in another village group that we could work with on an event, again, let us know
