2 Mental health MH is intended to introduce mental health for public health students The course is an introduction to the field of global mental health at undergraduate level. The course focuses mental health for low and middle income countries from global health perspective The course will be delivered through Lectures Mid term Final exam

3 Course objective This course provides an introduction to mental health in general. The course will include public health aspects of common mental health disorders. Students will be exposed to the epidemiological, public health interventions and preventive measures of mental health in the SDG agenda The course will have public health scenarios demonstrating mental health programming for intended students Introducing the growing importance of mental health in global health and international public health programmes and practices.

4 Learning outcomes After successfully completing this course, you should be able to: 1. Describe key mental health conditions 2. Explain burden of mental health disorders among diseases 3.Demonstrate preventive and promotive factors of mental health disorders 4.Explain mental health impact on physical health 5.Demonstrate mental health programming in low and middle income countries 6.Show mental health impact in public health and disasters 7. Indicate public health streaming in complex humanitarian settings 8.State mental health implications of areas of public health importance in Somaliland including women of child bearing age, children, adolescents, gender based violence and in post conflict settings

10 Ground rules Interrupting class by coming after instruction has started Speaking at inappropriate times, which includes having conversations with others in class, and engaging in loud or distracting behaviors Sleeping in class Taking frequent breaks Using cell phones or pagers in class Using their computers for purposes irrelevant to this class (e.g., communications, web browsing) Using inappropriate, including verbally abusive, language Displaying defiance or disrespect to others Behaving aggressively toward others Students who engage in these inappropriate behaviors may be asked to leave the class and may in addition be subjected to disciplinary action
