4. Clinical Access Purpose
Initiated as a response to the economic downturn. MediWales asked its members what was the most important factor to their success and survival in difficult economic times.
The most common response was the need for cost effective, appropriate and timely access to clinical expertise and facilities during new product development and introduction.
This was considered a more difficult issue to address than access to finance and funding.

5. Clinical Access Findings
R&D collaboration with industry can deliver improved patient care, reduced healthcare costs and economic benefits. Appropriate industry engagement can result in commercial, research and technology that benefits healthcare organisations.
However there can be a lack of visible, appropriate points of contact for initial engagement with healthcare organisations. There can be confusion derived from terminology and there can be a lack of motivators to deliver on time, on budget or as discussed in project agreements.
