Do not use electronic devices in class without teacher permission. Maintain a clean and orderly workspace. Bring all of your supplies to class daily. Complete all of your work and turn it in on time with your name Listen and actively participate in class. Do your very best every day. If you are struggling, see me. Follow ALL class procedures. Take responsibility for your actions. No food, gum, candy in the classroom. Drinks with lids are permitted. All assignments should be submitted in class on the due date. Failure to do so will result in a 0 grade. Rules All Concord High School rules are to be followed. Respect people, things, and ideas. Do not keep the teacher from teaching or students from learning. 2 Technology Plagiarism Cheating Course information Absentee Policy
Students will read and discuss various pieces in several genres and write their own pieces. The course is designed so that through reading the student gains an increased awareness of the form of writing and through practice hones his/her writing skills. Students who do not like to read (or write) probably should not take this course. This course is meant to allow students to express themselves with originality, intelligence, creativity and clarity through a variety of writing situations. Students will engage in the writing process, build a community of writers in the classroom and complete a portfolio of original works. YES, WE DID SOMETHING IMPORTANT WHILE YOU WERE ABSENT. It is the student’s responsibility to check the absent basket and make arrangements to complete the missed work. A student has three extra days to turn in any work assigned on a day a student was absent. If a quiz/test was administered on a day a student was absent, the quiz or test must be made up on the first day the student returns. If previously assigned work was due on the day of the absence, the work is due the day the student returns. Technology Chromebooks will be used frequently. Students are expected to abide by all school and district digital safety rules and guidelines. Failure to do so will result in student being banned from technology while in my classroom. Cellphones: Students will have access to school devices when technology is needed. Because of this, cellphones are NOT PERMITTED in the classroom without teacher permission. Students are expected to keep cellphones on silent, turned off, and put away during class time. Students will receive one verbal warning to put away cellphones. Any further issues and the student will receive a disciplinary referral. Movies: Various course related movies ranging from G to PG-13 will be shown in clips and full-length to supplement student understanding literature, writing, and artist interpretation. Plagiarism Cheating Plagiarism is the taking ideas and writings of another and passing them off as one’s own. In this class, plagiarism includes... 1. turning in another’s work as one’s own 2. copying work from a friend before class (or while in another class) 3. including a source but failing to cite it 4. copying an author’s exact words and passing them off as one’s own Students caught plagiarizing will be given a ZERO for the assignment. * The teacher will notify the administration and contact parents if cheating / plagiarism is suspected. * The student will be given a zero for that particular test or assignment. * The student will receive a disciplinary referral.
