1 More on False Teachers By Steve Mann

2 Peter writing to Christians emphasized
1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: [2Peter 1:1 NIV]

3 Peter says… 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. [2Peter 1:16 NIV]

4 Peter speaks as God’s prophet
19 We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. [2Peter 1:19 NIV]

5 God’s Prophets spoke God’s word
20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation of things. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. [2Pe 1:20-21 NIV]

6 The majority of people in this world do not believe that God has fully revealed Himself to all of mankind That He has fully, completely, told us everything we need to know So, so, many think we need their insight to assist us in our walk with God

7 God has “single sourced” all the information the world needs to know
His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. [2Peter 1:3 CSB]

8 We have a solemn warning
We (the prophets of God) also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. [2Peter 1:19 NIV]

9 18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. 19 They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together…[Colossians 2:18-19 NIV]

10 What for proper motivation
[Matthew 5:14-15 NIV] 14 "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

11 Proper motivation [Mat 5:16 NIV] 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Why do we do what we? Why do we teach what we teach?

12 How would other motivation manifest itself?
How about last weeks article in the local paper, the Professor said he had written “eight books” on the subject of spirits of the departed giving us instructions… Can we see that this is saying, “I know, I have special knowledge, come to me…” Me, me, me

13 Believers… Give the glory with God Teach His revelation only
If you want the glory or fame you should remember what Jesus said…

14 Jesus said… [Matthew 6:2 NIV] 2 "So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

15 David prayed.. In Psalm 17 “Rescue me from the wicked. By your hand save me from such people, LORD, from those of this world whose reward is in this life.”

16 We are a narrow minded bunch!
[Mat 7:13-15 NIV] 13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. 15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

17 FALSE TEACHERS [2Peter 2:1 NIV] 1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.

18 FALSE TEACHERS [2Pe 2:2-3 NIV] 2 Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. 3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

19 Is God serious about False teachers
1. (verse 4) For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment;

20 2. (verse 5) if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;

21 3. (verse 6) if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;

22 4. (verses 7,8) and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless 8 (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)--

23 Then the Lord knows! 5. (Verse 9) 9 if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.
