3. DUAL LANGUAGE IMMERSION PROGRAM (TREx)
Senate Bill 671, passed in the 85th legislative session, allows a student to satisfy one credit of the two credits in a language other than English (LOTE) required for graduation if the student successfully completes a dual language immersion program under Texas Education Code (TEC) § while in elementary school.
Texas Administrative Code (TAC) §74.5 requires that a student who satisfies a LOTE graduation credit requirement by successfully completing a dual language immersion program at an elementary school in accordance with criteria outlined in §74.12(b)(5)(F) must have the credit clearly indicated on the transcript. To successfully complete a dual language immersion program, a student must:

4. DUAL LANGUAGE IMMERSION PROGRAM (TREx)

achieve high levels of academic competence as demonstrated by performance of meets or masters grade level on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) in English or Spanish, as applicable; and
achieve proficiency in both English and a language other than English as demonstrated by scores of proficient or higher in the reading and speaking domains on language proficiency or achievement tests in both languages.

5. DUAL LANGUAGE IMMERSION PROGRAM (TREx)

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) worked with the Information Task Force (ITF) in order to determine what information must be captured in order for a local education agency (LEA) to determine whether a student has successfully completed a dual language program in accordance with the criteria outlined in 74.12(b)(5)(F).

What year did the student begin the dual language immersion program?
What year did the student end the dual language immersion program?
How is the dual language immersion program progress tracked through TREx?
