4. The Living Earth– NGSS/CCSS
In accordance with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Framework and the State of California’s Three-Course Model, biology (also known as The Living Earth) will examine the broad subject of life science on our planet.
This model combines all high school performance expectations (PEs) into the three courses. To highlight the nature of Earth and Space Sciences (ESS) as an interdisciplinary pursuit with crucial importance in California, The Living Earth is the first course in the sequence. NGSS is broken down into Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCI), Science and Engineering Practices (SEP), and Cross-Cutting Curriculum (CCC).
Mastery of these standards will be broken down into eight Instructional Segments (IS):

6. Biology: Scientific Practices
In each one of the units we will be discussing this year, you will be asked to use CER to guide your learning and understand how scientists figured out what’s in your textbook.
