LR stands out from the other Italian Regions thanks to its leadership in the field of research and innovation.
It invests in R&I more than the national average;
It has 12 universities, the 30% of private researchers and the 22% of the total researchers in Italy.
Moreover, biotech is an important sector for research and innovation policies: Lombardia hosts about 70 percent of Italian biotech companies and ranks among the top 20 regions in Europe in terms of biotech and related patents
