TF-DPPS: Task 43 Draft for a test procedure for Human Body Model simulation
Background: In the 2nd IWG-DPPS Contracting Parties (CP) presented the outcome of the “questions and answers” document prepared by Korea (IWG-DPPS/2/04.Rev2) Question 1: Do you agree on having a numerical simulation process for HIT in the amendment? IWG discussions led to the following principles: Numerical simulation is accepted as a principle by all present CPs. Physical dummy testing may be an alternative. In all cases, numerical simulation, or physical dummies, as well as generic vehicle front end rigs will need to perform compliance correlations and testing. The IG should then draft specific procedures for both alternatives. Task 43 (OICA): Draft conditions/procedures (location, posture, etc.) for a test procedure for Human Body Model simulation and physical dummy testing. This document contains a proposal for a test procedure for Human Body Model simulation

Proposal It is proposed to align legislation with the procedure already used in Consumer Metrics (Euro NCAP CoHerent Project, Technical Bulletin 024 v1.01) The technical background and details of the procedure was presented in IWG-DPPS-1-04e.pdf Use of representative generic vehicles Harmonized Simulation Setup Kinematic Comparison of HBM Determination of Head Contact Time Definition of a practicable procedure in the wording of the legislation Proposal for a manageable way forward to solve the open items

Proposal Protocol needs a worldwide accepted legislative platform It is recommended to publish the test procedure within the framework of the Mutual Resolution No. 1 (M.R.1) of the 1958 and the 1998 Agreements (Concerning the description and performance of test tools and devices necessary for the assessment of compliance of wheeled vehicles, equipment and parts according to the technical prescriptions specified in Regulations and global technical regulations) Maintenance of protocol can be done in in a proper rhythm [e.g. yearly] Validation of models and handling of CAE models have to be considered Outcome of recent and current projects on virtual homologation should be taken into account

Definition of a practicable procedure in the wording of the legislation Accept necessary data support from OEM [Use content of informal document GRSP with refined definition from 1.1] 1.1. When the numerical simulation is conducted, the manufacturer must provide supporting evidences showing appropriateness of the simulation tool and suitable biofidelity and kinematics of the chosen numerical models. The comparison of the kinematics need to be shown with corresponding human data not being related to the specific vehicle. The manufacturer has to provide a generic validation report to the technical service. The walking posture of the model shall include the following conditions reference to M.R.1 Extract from the 1958 Agreement, revision 3, Schedule 8, 2.2 won’t be touched, because the simulation model is used for the determination of prerequisite data (HIT) and not for injury values which are relevant for the approval.
