5 NEED: Skilled Workforce
SOLUTION: ISA Education and Training ISA’s in-plant training program set revenue records for the third year in a row in 2018 and open enrollment training continues to grow year-over-year Most popular training topics include safety, cybersecurity, and fundamentals training The latest training courses offered cover these topics: Wireless Asset management Data acquisition Advanced safety integrity level selection Advanced design and SIL verification Analyzers The market continues to respond positively to these offerings. For the second year in a row, ISA’s in-plant training program set a new revenue record. Plants and facilities around the world benefit from bringing our training to their locations, because they can save time, save money on travel costs, and train more people at once. Our most popular courses are focused on safety, cybersecurity, and instrumentation fundamentals, but we offer courses in dozens of different topic areas. Our newest training courses cover topics like MES, penetration testing, process measurement fundamentals, industrial and IT data communications, cybersecurity for water/wastewater, cyber sensors and IOT, and alarm management.

6 Section co-sponsored training
Need: Skilled workforce Solution: ISA education and training Section co-sponsored training Team up with ISA training and earn revenue 2019 goal: 14 total (1 per district) How It Works: Pick the course and schedule (16 week lead time necessary) You pick the venue You fill the seats (Minimum 5 registrations required) ISA sends the instructor to you ISA pays your section! (10% revenue share) Contact for more details During ISA’s 2018 budget development process, the ISA Executive Board issued a challenge to sections around the world – the goal is to co-sponsor at least one training course in each District. By bringing an ISA course to your local area, ISA Sections can earn money – and even more importantly, you’ll be delivering quality education to your members and prospects. If your section decides to participate, you’ll select a course that you think your local area would find valuable. You’ll find a venue and schedule the course at least 16 weeks in advance so that you have plenty of time to promote it locally. If at least 5 people register, the course can run and your section will reap the benefits. ISA will deliver the course and your section will earn 10% of the revenue!

7 NEED: Objective Skill Assessments
SOLUTION: ISA Certification and Certificate Programs Another very closely related need in industry is the ability to document and objectively quantify skill sets in current or potential employees. ISA’s two flagship certification programs, CAP and CCST, were designed by experts in the field to cover the most important skills needed by automation professionals and technicians. Our newest programs offer certificates in cybersecurity and safety. To earn a certificate, applicants complete a training course and an exam. There are several levels in each program culminating in the ISA/IEC Cybersecurity Expert Designation and the ISA84/IEC Process Safety Expert Designation. ISA’s training courses and exams can be brought to your location, worldwide. ((Play video))

8 What’s New in Certification and Certificate Programs
NEED: Objective Skill Assessments SOLUTION: ISA Certification SOLUTION: ISA Certification and Certificate Programs What’s New in Certification and Certificate Programs Digital Badging Allows certificate and certification holders to use an image to quickly communicate their skills and achievements Badges store certain bits of metadata that allows them to be verified and used anywhere that accepts this format; users can add them to badge “backpacks”, job sites, social networks, portfolio pages, and signatures Case Study: One leading supplier is utilizing ISA’s cybersecurity certificate program within their internal training and certification programs for employees, customers, and partners One of the latest trends in certification and certificate programs is digital badging. A digital badge is a validated, online representation of a skill you've earned. Badges are conversation starters, and the information linked to or 'behind' each badge serves as justification and validation of the badge. Once you’ve earned a certification or certificate, you can display your badge on your CV or resume, within your profiles on social networks or intranets, and in your signature as an easy way for others to see your accomplishment. Another trend we see relates to supplier training and how major automation vendors are developing internal training and certification programs to make sure their employees, customers, and partners are aligned on key technical topics. For companies who have dozens of locations around the world, using lots of different contractors in different industry segments, it can be very difficult to align on terminology, processes, and best practices. A common program that trains people on these topics the same way every time is a solution that many large companies are developing. Schneider Electric is one significant example of this and they are using ISA’s cybersecurity courses, and our certificate program, within their curriculum for training their employees, contractors, and customers. We anticipate more of this type of outreach in the future.

((Play video)) During the 2019 budget preparation process, the ISA Executive Board issued a challenge to ISA’s sections to help focus their attention on local growth. Like many professional societies, ISA has experienced a decline in professional members over the last several years. Each section is challenged to work on retaining and recruiting members in 2019.

16 Section membership challenge: Call to action!
Tracking tools for Sections Month-end Section statistics report Retention and growth percentages; number of members needed to reach the goal Section rosters – on-demand, all inclusive, clean membership list Best practices for recruitment and retention Ask a friend or colleague to join No membership message is more powerful! Designate someone in your section to: Officially welcome each new member into the Section Contact those in grace to remind them to renew Contact those that have lapsed to convince them to come back to ISA Bonus Incentive: Drawing for all sections that have met specified goals 5 Sections will receive USD 500/each - Drawing in January 2020 Every month, sections will have access to a month-end report that tracks retention and growth metrics, along with the number of new or renewing members needed to meet the goal set by the Executive Board. Section rosters are on-demand reports used by section leaders to conduct business with their members. As always, committees and staff are continuously developing and sharing best practices in retention and recruitment. Time-tested best practices include personally asking friends or colleagues to join; and identifying members in your section to take on important membership tasks. Finally, in order to give sections an additional incentive toward meeting these goals, the Society has set aside funds to have a drawing to reward sections who meet the established goal. 5 sections could win USD 500 during a drawing in January, 2020.
