Jokes Something intended to be funny that we may not understand without an explanation. Hidden Meaning What people really mean when they speak rather than what they actually say. Sarcasm A comment that appears to be nice but is really someone being funny, mocking or hurtful that we may not understand.

3 Tone of Voice The changes in a person’s voice to indicate what they mean or feel which may be different from what they say or do. Body Language Our non-verbal behaviours that is used to express our feelings – facial expressions, eye signals, physical movements, posture. Implications A suggestion to say or do something that we may not pick up on as an actual request to carry out an action.

Metaphors A way of speaking which compares two things that are different or unrelated - The teacher is a dragon. Literalism Taking what people say in exactly the way they say it – there is a frog in my throat…..they are hoarse or coughing.   Asking for Help Being able to ask for help or understanding that we have the option to ask for help or that different people can help us.
