1 DIRECTIONS, TIPS, EXAMPLES
Wonder quest DIRECTIONS, TIPS, EXAMPLES

2 STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Brainstorm: write down ?s as you read. Review your questions; determine the one that you’re most interested in or curious about. Switch to a different question if your dream question doesn’t work out. Complete a Works Cited page as you work. Don’t wait until the end to do this! Compose your research paragraph. Add at least one original idea or example. Search for answers to your wonder. Use effective search terms. Embed all quotes and paraphrased quotes. Parenthetically cite all borrowed information. Do not simply enter your question into a search engine. Instead, pick out some key words and see what comes up. Trust me, that is more effective. Submit to turnitin.com. Try a different combination of words with each search, or simply your search terms. Bring hard copy to class on Friday, May 19. After research, write down your final question on the top line of the green form. Write down or copy/paste onto a word document A MINIMUM OF 5 DIRECT QUOTES [exactly as written in the article] on green handout. Use at least one credible source.

5 C. NEVER use quotes and paraphrasing at the same time.
A FEW TIPS… A. String together, analyze, and put into context the information you have borrowed. I don’t want to read a list of information. I want to read your interpretation and analysis of your research. B. Use transitional words and phrases to link information together so that it isn’t choppy. C. NEVER use quotes and paraphrasing at the same time. D. Paraphrase does not just change a few words and ideas. 1. You must RESTRUCTURE the ideas and make them your own. 2. Do not use the same sentence structure.

6 Check out the document library for an example paragraph…

7 Congratulations National Junior Honor Society inductees!
