Modes de vie des adolescents p.10 (= lifestyles of adolescents)
Young French people like to play individual sports (judo, swimming, tennis) and/or team sports (soccer, rugby, basketball) They spend their free time with anything linked to audiovisual stuff (TV, movies, video games) They are also huge digital consumers: social media (facebook, Twitter, texting) – these instant messaging tools allow for a sense of community and a sense of virtual community according to taste, interest and social practices of adolescents Young people who share similar tastes in clothes, TV stars, listen to the same genre of music, fans of sports teams gather around fashion, music, sport, video games Young people create their own “lingo”, gestures, (often taken from their TV or sporting heroes) and even way of speaking. Young people generally share a common desire to party and music holds a special place: it’s a moment to ‘let loose’ VOCAB: un sport collectif, ajouter, numérique, les résaux sociaux, les goûts, se rassembler, se reconnaître, une façon, s’éclater

Les MJC p.11 (= Youth Center)
Maison des Jeunes et de la Culture: place where young people meet Exist in almost every town in France They are centers for sports, education, cultural and artistic events mainly destined for children, adolescents and under 25 year olds, but also for adults The MJCs offer educational and recreational activities such as sports, painting, music, showing movies: they are truly centers for information and exchange where you can see or participate in exhibitions and charitable works They are also important centers for finding help and assistance; the ytherefore represent an important space for social interaction, information exchange and social assistance fro the inhabitants of a town. You can sign up for your town’s MJC and regularly attend all its activities, or simply go every now and then The membership fees are always very reasonable as the MJC organization receives State subsidies and are regional Federal partners VOCAB: Un échange, prendre part, un projet de bénévolat, un tarif d’adhésion
