What are some ways to prepare students to start a new lesson?
Paired Discussion What are some ways to prepare students to start a new lesson? Preview One way to prepare students for a new lesson is to review the vocabulary and concepts from the previous lesson. Ask participants to find a partner and respond to the prompt. After two to three minutes, ask a few participants to share something that they or their partner said. Prompt for “new voices”, or participants that haven’t spoken to the whole group yet.

Video In this video, you’ll see some ideas for reviewing the previous lesson. Use your handout to take notes.

One way to help students review previously learned language is to:
take down all materials from the last lesson. copy words from the board 50 times each. refer to earlier examples of work and class materials made by the students. Reviewing the previous lesson: is only necessary for tests and quizzes. takes up too much class time that should be spent on new material. helps young learners remember and practice language that may be recycled in the next lesson. Review Let’s review what we just heard about reviewing the previous lesson. Ask participants to vote on the correct answer to each question. Answers: Question 1: refer to earlier examples of work and class materials made by the students. Question 2: helps young learners remember and practice language that may be recycled in the next lesson. Tell participants to write additional notes on their handout under “Reviewing the previous lesson.” Sample participant notes might include: refer to previous examples of student-made work and class materials; review recycled language from the previous lesson
