Curriculum Sheet – Strand # 1 Analytic Geometry (Unit #1 – Linear Systems) Note – Linear Systems Solving by Graphing Homework
3
Linear Systems When two or more equations are used to model a problem, it is called a system of equations. If all of the equations are linear, it is called a linear system. Example: Joe works at SuperSave and gets paid $10.25 and hour. Cindy runs her own business and earns a flat fee of $10 and an hourly rate of $5.00. When will they make the same amount of money?
4
There are 3 methods that can be used to solve a linear system:
A solution to a linear system is the coordinate point where the lines intersect. This point satisfies all of the equations in the system. There are 3 methods that can be used to solve a linear system: Graphing Substitution Elimination
5
To Solve a System by Graphing:
Graph all of the linear equations in the system. Find the point of intersection. Write the ordered pair as a solution. (referring back to the scenario provided in the problem – if given).
