There are certain elements within the sun that make it what it is today. There are also quite a lot of layers on the sun as well.

Corona
Chromosphere
Photosphere
Subsurface Flows
Convection Zone
Radiation Zone
Inner Core

The dark dots on this image of the sun are called sun spots.
These are the coldest parts of the sun.
