We often hear of: 21st Century Classrooms/environments 21st Century learners 21st Century literacies What then, is the ‘21st Century’ framework?

4 LwICT If we think back to the MECY LwICT document, “21st Century” learning is framed by: Creative Thinking Skills Critical Thinking Skills Ethics and Responsibility Goal: Infuse LwICT into existing curriculum

5 Can we go deeper than LwICT?
Individual Brainstorm: Create your own brief list of items (3 – 5) that you feel are the most essential skills that today’s students will need throughout their lives Think about your rationalization for each item on your list

6 Compare… With one or two partners, share your list and see if it is possible to come to a consensus on the 3 most essential life skills for the 21st century

11 Learning and Innovation Skills (4Cs)
Collaboration, Creativity, Communication and Critical Thinking These are considered the key skills that students should use as they learn content Knowing one’s own learning process and being able to problem solve make learning content possible

12 The 3 “R”s Reading, Writing and Arithmetic/Mathematics
The 3 “R”s represent all core subjects Content and Themes of study 21st Century Themes of Study (P21): Global Awareness Financial, Economic and business literacy Civic Literacy Health Literacy Environmental Literacy
