4 Creative Thought Now that you know civilization is collapsing, what kind of characteristics would a strong leader have. Why would it be different then a Roman Emperor?

Ruled over most of what is known as France today. His successors are known as the Merovingian Kings ~ “The Long Haired Kings” His successors continued to fight over the thrown which divided and weakened the territory in which he built.

Mayor of the Palace Most powerful position in the kingdom He is the real power behind the thrown Commanded armies and made policies Helped defeat the Tours Extended the power of the Franks in all directions

7 Pepin the Short Son of “The Hammer”
He wrote the Pope to see his thoughts on who should be king First person to ever be anointed king by the Pope. This gave him spiritual power as well as political power. Helped the Pope chase the Lombards out of Rome. New alliance between the two. His son is going to be an awesome ruler.

LOUIS THE PIOUS, CHARLEMAGNE’S SON, SUCCEDED AS KING AND EMPEROR

10 THE FIGHT FOR THE KINGDOM
LOUIS THE PIOUS HAS THREE SONS: CHARLES THE BALD LOTHAIR LOUIS THE GERMAN ALL THREE FOUGHT FOR A PIECE OF THE KINGDOM. THE EMPIRE THAT CHARLEMAGNE BUILT IS NO LONGER.
