Topic Mr. Men & Little Miss, Autumn Literacy, Language and Communication Mathematical Development The majority of the Maths learning will be done practically and orally. We use the outdoor area and forest school frequently to complete practical activities come rain or shine! We will learning to identify and name a range of 2D and 3D shapes. We will be linking this to our topic the Mr Men, where the children will be making models of different characters. Number work is a large strand that we focus on this term. Counting and recognising numbers 1-20 and sequencing in the correct order. We will also be learning some new songs to helps us remember how to form numbers independently. This term we will initially be reading the Mr Men and Little Miss stories. The focus will be on Oracy-discussion, opinions, experiences which is designed to boost children’s confidence , fluency and also increase their vocabulary. The children will be working on other skills and activities to aid their fine motor skills such as ‘Dough Disco (playdough), sewing, threading and building. We’ll focus on attributing meaning to the pictures/ mark makings that they create. We also work on the children recognising their names and attempting to make marks that resemble them. The children have an introduction to the school’s phonics programme Read Write Inc. and we help them identify the sounds and letters that are in their names. Continuous Provision The continuous provision in the classroom is designed so that the children can practise the new skills that they have learnt through play. The continuous provision is enhanced with new elements depending on which of the 6 areas we are working on at the time. The children will access both the indoor and the outdoor provision. This part of the curriculum is very ‘child led’ and allows children to explore different learning areas and reinforce and practise skills taught previously. Knowledge and Understanding of the World The main focus this term is looking at the season ‘Autumn’. We will be going for a walk locally round Ruabon to identify features of the season. We will be learning about different trees, nuts and berries and also animals that are preparing for hibernation. Creative Development In line with our Topics, the children will be given the opportunity to use lots of different mark making tools and materials. The children will learn how to mix their own paint and become independent in their own ideas. We wil be creating our own character models using recycled materials models .The children will create pictures using natural resources found outside. Personal and Social Development The main focus this term is about the children settling into school, understanding the school routine, making new friends and increasing their confidence and self belief. As a school we have three rules –Be READY, Be RESPECTFUL, Be SAFE. Linking in with our topic we will learn and discuss lots of different characters in the stories we are reading. We will be highlighting the different emotions and behaviours they have such as Mr Happy, Mr Sad, Mr Bump. The children are encouraged to express their own opinions and share their likes and dislikes. . As part of the school curriculum, each child will have a person centred profile (PCP) developed for them which displays likes, dislikes, things important to them and thigs they’re good at. Later in the Term will be Focusing on the story ‘Stickman’ by Julia Donaldson. We will hopefully be having a visit from a very special gentleman-Sid The Elf! Welsh Language The focus for Welsh is the use of incident al Welsh language both inside and outside the classroom such as Greetings, manners, colours, numbers, and singing ‘Penblwydd Hapus’ . Children will learn to tell people who they are (Pwy wyt ti?) and how to respond to question also.
