Commencement of the Trees Around the GLOBE Student Research Campaign
The Trees Around the GLOBE Campaign commenced on September 15, 2018 in conjunction with NASA's ICESat-2 satellite launch on the same date at 6:02am PDT. The campaign focuses on students taking tree height measurements around the globe, with complementary measurements of land cover classification, green up/green down, and the carbon cycle to help build a robust data set for research. Once the ICESat-2 satellite data for tree height is available, students will be able to compare their tree height data to that of the satellite. The student data can also serve as validation data for the satellite. On Tuesday, September 25, 2018, the first webinar for the Trees Around the GLOBE Student Research Campaign by discussing the campaign logistics, what to expect, what GLOBE protocols to use to collect data and see how the NASA Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 Mission fits into the campaign. We also highlighted the plan for the campaign's use of student collaboration, GLOBE data, and research projects. The webinar was attended GLOBE teachers and students from Argentina, Sweden, Switzerland, Brazil, Peru, Croatia, Netherlands, Germany, Estonia, India, Portugal, Thailand, Nigeria, Ghana, Taiwan, Poland, Bulgaria, Costa Rica, United States, and Trinidad Trees Around the GLOBE Webinar #1 Attending Countries Brian Campbell, NASA GSFC WFF,
