Visit the John Cabot ship in Bristol's harbour side. YEAR 1 Term 4 Pirates beware! Books: The night pirates, Captain Flinn, How to be a pirate and The Pirates next door etc Create a beach/sun safety poster. Watch some live tennis matches. Find out about a famous tennis player. Do some research to find out about different sea creatures. Create an animal report! ENGLISH MATHS Fractions – Directions: What is a half/quarter? How many parts? Can we find a half/quarter of an amount, shape or object? What is a double? Can we make ¼, ½, ¾ and whole turns? Which way is left/right? anti/clockwise? Can we give and follow accurate instructions? How do we get to_____? Measure: What is capacity and weight? How do we measure them? How could we find out the capacity and weight of different treasure chests? Pirate instructions: What are the key features of instructions? What are time conjunctions? What are imperative verbs? How do we use them? Turtle report: What is a conjunction? How can we use different conjunctions to explain and link information? How can we group information together? CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT (Art, Music, Design technology) Art – Watercolour turtles: How do I hold and control a paintbrush? How do we use watercolours? How do we mix different colours/shades? Music - Sea shanties! What is a round? How do we perform them? Design your own pirate flag using 2D shapes. Practise counting forward and back starting on different numbers – count in 2s, 5s and 10s. Wear a watch to practise reading the time. Read at least three times a week to earn a gold coin for the reading rainbow! Parents, please use the reading bookmark attached to their reading record to ask your child questions to develop their comprehension. Create a sea scene picture. You could use paint, colouring pencils, pens, chalks, collage or different materials.
