6 overall_0_ columns_1_ Engaging the right people at the right time is critical to developing and implementing the best answer

7 First, identify the critical stakeholders
overall_0_ columns_1_ 6_85 First, identify the critical stakeholders Groups that will be most affected by the work Trusted influencers that could serve as strong promoters Potential detractors that could stall progress Key decision-makers that must be on board As I mentioned earlier, the Leading for Impact program gives our team the opportunity to do two customized projects with support from The Bridgespan Group. We are currently in the midst of one of these projects, focused on strategic clarity. [Explain context for the project, the key question, the analysis approach, how staff will be involved, and what to expect in terms of next steps and timing]

8 Next, consider how to engage them in the work of the project

9 Exercise: Thinking about engaging key stakeholders
overall_0_ columns_1_ Exercise: Thinking about engaging key stakeholders With your thought partner, consider: Who will be affected by the decisions you are likely to make? Who will influence the decision? How can you best engage these groups, now and into implementation? Customize by cohort: If majority of clients have already had discussions on stakeholders on project calls, you can run this as a group discussion to share out If clients would benefit from the exercise, then break into groups and use the hand-out Capture your thinking on the Handout so you can share/test it with your full team later today

10 Group discussion: Engaging key stakeholders
overall_0_ columns_1_ Group discussion: Engaging key stakeholders Which stakeholder groups did your team identify? Which group strikes you as the most important to engage? How will you engage them? What is going to be the hardest thing to get “right” with this group? Customize by cohort: If majority of clients have already had discussions on stakeholders on project calls, you can run this as a group discussion to share out If clients would benefit from the exercise, then break into groups and use the hand-out
