2 Terminology Counter argument: the other side of an argument (BP #3)
Concession: acknowledgement of the other side (CM #1). They are right, and here is why. Refutation (to refute) or Rebuttal: an answer that challenges a specific claim or charge (CM #2). I am more right, and here is why.

3 Format of the counter argument
X = author’s last name or “Article Title” It is argued by x that…. (CD) This is valid because… (CM #1) However, (CM #2) asserted contended has been maintained claimed stated Signals the beginning of the counter argument Signals the beginning of the refutation

5 Format of counter argument
Counter argument: use a source which contains the viewpoint opposite of yours Concession: concede (you acknowledge) the other side’s validity Refutation: refute or challenge the view point of the opposition **You must include THREE concrete details (CDs) that show the opposing viewpoint of your issue. Concrete detail Commentary #1 Commentary #2

DO NOT use personal pronouns (we, I, our, you, me, and us) **Remember: acknowledging, conceding, and refuting makes you a better writer. You must always say “hello to the other side.”
