Difference between scale and scale factor
Scale- ratio of measurements from a drawing, model, or picture to the actual measurements can be different units like inches: feet has to have measurement labels Scale Factor- comparison of measurements in the SAME units does not usually have labels!
5
Scale factor 1 find the scale factor and missing side
6
Scale factor 1 Answer Scale factor: ½ X = 4.5 cm
7
Scale factor 2 find the scale factor and missing side
8
Scale factor 2 - answer Scale factor: 1.5 X = 12 cm

Step-by-Step Example AREA REVIEW. A floor plan for a home is shown at the left where inch represents 3 feet of the actual home. What is the actual area of the bathroom ? Find the length using the scale Find the width using the scale Find the area using length and width Length 0.5 𝑖𝑛 3 𝑓𝑡 = 2 𝑖𝑛 𝑥 𝑓𝑡 X = 12 feet 2. Width 0.5 𝑖𝑛 3 𝑓𝑡 = 1 𝑖𝑛 𝑥 𝑓𝑡 X = 3 feet 3. Area 12 x 3= 36 𝑓𝑡 2 Need Another Example?

Perimeter, Area, and Scale Factor
If the scale of a floor plan is ¼ inch : 1 foot, what is the area of a master bedroom that measures 8 inches in length and 7 inches in width on the floor plan Find the length in feet Find the width in feet Find the area in feet

Perimeter, Area, and Scale Factor - Answer
If the scale of a floor plan is ¼ inch : 1 foot, what is the area of a master bedroom that measures 8 inches in length and 7 inches in width on the floor plan Length 0.25 𝑖𝑛 1 𝑓𝑡 = 8 𝑖𝑛 𝑥 𝑓𝑡 X = 32 feet 2. Width 0.25 𝑖𝑛 1 𝑓𝑡 = 7 𝑖𝑛 𝑥 𝑓𝑡 X = 28 feet 3. Area 32 x 28 = 896 𝑓𝑡 2

Redrawing a shape with a different scale factor
2. A square garden has sides that are 15 feet in length. Using the graph on the answer document, draw a scale drawing of the garden using the scale of 3 𝑐𝑚 = 5 𝑓𝑡. Convert the feet to cm using the scale Redraw the square using the cm you just found!
