Let’s review: Diagnosing Cancer Assignment
Open up to your assignment for a stamp. No stamp = 25% off assignment Peer Assessment today. Make sure to fully read your person’s responses and carefully review their concept map. Total the score, show the owner and turn in the grading checklist to the turn in bin.

Diagnostic Imaging Concept Map
Component 3 Points 2 Points 1 Point Key Terms: Diagnostic Imaging, CT Scan, X-ray, Bone/PET Scan, MRI 100% of key terms appear and have been used correctly. 75% of key terms appear and are used correctly. 50% of key terms appear and are used correctly. Connectors Key terms are all connected appropriately. 75% of key terms are connected appropriately. 50% of key terms are connected appropriately, many are missing or not used effectively. Organization Map reads smoothly and logically in all places and it reads from general to more specific. The map shows a clear understanding of the relationships between terms. Map reads smoothly and logically most of the time and it reads from general to more specific. Some understanding of the relationships between terms is shown. Map reads smoothly and logically some of the time and it does not read from general to more specific all the time. A clear understanding of the relationship between terms is not evident.

Conclusion questions Conclusion Questions:
1. A patient enters a hospital after hitting her head in a car accident. She is diagnosed with a fractured skull but has other symptoms that she is suffering from brain damage. What technology should be used to confirm this diagnosis? (2 pts) MRI Scan first to determine what the problem is with the soft tissue of the brain. And a CT Scan next as it can also look for problems inside the body, in particular for a possible injuries to the skull. Although this test does expose the patient to some radiation. 2.Come up with a situation where it would be inappropriate to use an MRI scan as a diagnostic tool? (1 pt) If the patient is claustrophobic or has some sort of a metal surgical implant in their body. 3.Explain how a bone scan can be helpful in diagnosing bone cancers, like Mike Smith’s osteosarcoma. Be specific. (1pt) Bone scans are helpful in diagnosing bone cancer because the radioactive dye will highlight “hot spots”, places of abnormal bone metabolism activity amongst the bones. When you see hot spots it can indicate there is a problem, however it cannot indicate the source/cause of the cancer. 4.How do MRI and CT scan technologies compare to ultrasonography? (2 pts) They are similar in that they both non-invasive and are able to show soft tissue inside the body similar to the ultrasound. Where ultrasound uses sound waves to create a picture of the soft tissue, CT uses ionizing radiation and MRI’s use magnetic resonance.
