4 Vocabulary 11-15 Checkpoint
Complete the vocabulary checkpoint. DO NOT TURN IT IN! Make sure you have your Independent Reading Novel for class today!

5 Warm-Up: Vocabulary Create a sentence that uses words we hear every day and replace them with vocabulary words. Ex: Selling me a fake watch is a mean trick. sham (scam)

6 Warm-Up: Quick Write Write a dialogue between two people.
Minimum of 4 lines (2 lines each). Must include at least 3 of the vocabulary words from this quarter!

7 Illustrating Character Traits
What 4 techniques does an author use to characterize? SAYS-What a character says. THINKS-What a character thinks. DOES-What a character does (his/her actions). RESPONDS-How others respond to the character.

8 Illustrating Character Traits
You will be given 6-8 words for your group. Define: Define each word correctly. Illustrate: Illustrate the word meaning. Explanation: Explain how your illustration shows the word meaning. Quality: Is it presentable? We will share these as a class when we finish.

9 Illustrating Character Traits
Gregarious: One who is friendly, sociable, or likes company. A gregarious character might shake hands with new people they meet.

10 Illustrating Character Traits
Apply your knowledge of newly learned characteristics to create an illustrated characteristic for a main character in your independent read!

11 Illustrated Characteristic Ex:
Katniss from Hunger Games: Courageous Katniss was very courageous when she decided to give the 3-finger salute after Rue died. This showed her rebellion to the city and made a statement to the rest of the districts.

12 On your own: Create a characterization illustration for a character in your independent reading novel.
