Star Students Math 11/26-11/30 Literacy Calendar Birthdays
Our book of the week is “The Gift” and our sight words are “it & play”. We will be talking about our favorite gifts and winter holidays. We will continue to practice proper letter formation in our “Handwriting Without Tears” book. Please make sure that when your child is writing at home, they are starting their name with a capital letter and the rest lower case. They are really working hard on this at school! In Reading Workshop, we will continue our Fiction Unit of Study. Over the next few weeks we will read different versions of “The Gingerbread Man”. We will be looking at all of the fiction story elements and comparing and contrasting two books. Students will also practice retelling with a partner. In Writing Workshop, we will spend the next few weeks on a Grammar Unit. Students will begin by learning that nouns name people, places, things, & animals. They will continue to make books and write in their new journals. In the first lesson, students will use a pan balance to identify a total that balances two parts. The use of the pan balance will help develop the concept of equality. This understanding is necessary for writing equations in the next Module. In lesson two, students identify an unknown part in a balance situation. This will be a challenge! But we will persevere and continue to work on all year.
